How to Attract What You Do Want

By Marshall Brown

Over the last several years, I have been reading more and more about the law of attraction. I was first introduced by the concept with the movie, What the Bleep Do We Know, followed by, The Secret. I listened to speakers on the subject, read a few books and the like.

Then about 4 years ago I was introduced to vision boards by two coaching colleagues of mine.  As they will tell you, I fought the idea tooth and nail, but I finally made one, and then we all shared each other’s stories and vision boards.  I still have it in my office and since then I have made  another one.  I have also had numerous clients of mine create vision boards for themselves.  I admit I haven’t done one recently, but I will when the time is right. By the way, my boards over the years have included places that I wanted to visit (of which 3 places I actually did go), and growing my business internationally (which has happened over the last 6 months). I also have to admit, some things haven’t occurred yet. I guess I just haven’t put the right energy into it yet.

What I am doing though, is reading The Law of Attraction, by Meera Lester.  It is based on the theories of Esther and Jerry Hicks, Michael Losier and Rhonda Bryne.  It’s a powerful book and very enlightening. I am not about to admit that I know everything about the law of attraction, but I can share with you some general steps to clear away some of the blocks that you might be facing.

1. Manifest positive thoughts

Write positive thoughts down imagining what you do want. Write it as if it already has happened. No butt’s! Reprogram your thoughts and let go of the negative baggage you might be carrying.

2. Cultivate feelings of self-worth

Know what you do have to offer and deserve to have. Forget the negative thoughts.

3. Focus on what you want rather than on what you don’t want.

Make a list of all the positive reasons why you deserve it and own it! Visualize it and declare it as yours.

4. Create space in your life for what you do want.

Clear out the emotional and physical space for what you do desire. Clear away the clutter.

5. Open your mind and heart to all of the possibilities and look at it from various perspectives.

Imagine it in different ways and fantasize about all the possibilities that could occur.

6.  Be grateful for what you already have.

Acknowledge the loving relationships that you may have, the possessions and other positive feelings.

One thing I try to remember is that the most important thing is to feel good. You will begin to see that as you focus on the positive and express gratitude for what you already have the universe will send you even more to be grateful for.

I am finding, and I hope you do as well, that we can have the life we choose. It just takes positive thoughts and a little imagination.

Run an Effective Online Job Search

In today’s job market you have to be able to connect with employers via the Internet. The Internet clearly has altered the way you find a job and manage your career. And the great thing about an Internet search and posting your resume is that it can be done instantly. The employer can post the position as soon as it becomes available and you instantly can post your resume. No more 2-3 day “snail mail” wait.

The e-resume

You first want to be able to develop and transmit effectively an electronic or Internet resume. Let’s begin be looking at the distinctions between the 2:
An electronic resume organizes and presents your qualifications in the order the computer wants them to appear. The information is stored in a database and typically will be searched by keywords. Therefore, you want to be sure you know the popular keywords and how to use them.

An Internet resume is typically sent as either an e-mail message (embedded) or as an attachment. (I have been told by numerous hiring managers that more and more prefer the resume embedded vs. attached due to “virus” possibilities when sending.) It is important to keep in mind that an Internet resume most likely will not transmit in the same format in which you send it.

Don’t just convert your “paper” resume and send it as an Internet one. It won’t convert bold lettering, italics, bullets, etc. The resume usually will print out in the font the recipient uses, not the font on your computer.

Regardless of which resume you use, I suggest simple fonts, such as Helvetica, Courier Sans Serif or Times, and size 10 or 12 point. And forget all the glitzy graphic techniques that your paper resume might have. Scanners and databases won’t be able to pick these up and most likely will not properly present your resume information.

I also suggest, when possible, follow up with a paper version of your resume via snail mail for 2 reasons:

Job search via the Internet

The Internet, if properly and wisely used, can be a very effective and efficient way to market your story, i.e. your resume. Your resume can be distributed in a matter of minutes, if not seconds, to an unlimited number of recruiters and employers. And therein lies a problem. With a traditional print resume, you can control its distribution and can customize qualifications according to what you believe are the needs of a specific organization.

To conduct an online targeted mar-keting campaign, you need to have some selectivity over who reads your resume and a way to reach those you want.

Also, use some caution when conducting online job searches, since it is possible for a supervisor or colleague to come across your resume. You do not want this to happen, particularly if your current employer is not aware you are seeking a new position.

You are likely familiar with basic Internet research tools, such as Google or Yahoo. You also can take advantage of search engines as information resources to help focus and narrow your marketing arenas. Think about your job search needs and use web sites to:

* Identify organizations where you have some interest in working;
* Research organizations that have job openings for which you intend to apply;
* Review job listings on an organization¹s web site;
* Locate on-line job databases specializing in your field or industry;
* Become informed about salary range norms and other benefits;
* Learn of local networking events and headhunters¹ offices;
* Investigate cost of living and other needed community information, if considering relocation.
